PHYSICAL ABILITIES:
+ Neurachem — Good ol’ neuromuscular enhancements. These are like steroids, but without the side-effects or any need for subsequent doses. They can come pre-installed on some bodies (sleeves), and Takeshi makes it a priority to add them to any sleeve he uses. Varied by brand and capabilities, his current neurachem enhancements improve his reaction time, speed, strength, and stamina.
+ ONI/Optical Cyberware Implants — Optical implants allow for a HUD in one’s vision. Some features include: browsing the internet, placing/receiving video and phone calls, recording video/audio as witnessed, storing and accessing data, GPS, a review of body and system virals, and much more.
+ Hand-to-Hand Combat — Most of Tak’s fist-fighting was born out of a sheer necessity to survive…but it was later supplemented by the formal training of the armed forces, as well as his own Envoy training. It’s not his forte to fight empty-handed, but he’s still one hell a force to be reckoned with.
+ Firearm Proficiency — As a Protectorate soldier, Takeshi was formally military-trained. As a mercenary, he learned a lot on his own. He is adept with most firearms, including energy weapons.
+ Bladed Weapon Proficiency — Knives are cheaper and sometimes more handy than firearms. He often utilizes blades dipped in heavy doses of psychoactive drugs. Takeshi can sometimes be sentimental: call it a homage to his Japanese roots, or just plain ol’ badassery, but he enjoys putting a sharp katana to good use.

MENTAL ABILITIES:
+ CTAC-grade Violence Restraint Disengagement — This military-prescribed mental therapy systematically removes moral and logical restraints on inflicting physical violence. Thereby, it allows for a being to engage others while unrestrained by conventional, human ideas of pain and suffering, partnered with a subdued neurological response to said pain and suffering.
+ Envoy Deduction — Intuition can, in fact, be learned and honed; he has been at it for many, many years. Tak’s level of deduction is notable, giving him the ability to not only read people and situations with ease, but to also manipulate and discern intentions.
+ Envoy “Total Absorb” — Takeshi has a photographic and very expansive memory. He can often recall most minor details that might otherwise go unnoticed.
+ Needlecasting — Part of Tak’s Envoy training was developing a physical and mental resistance to “needlecasting”—otherwise known as temporarily casting one’s consciousness into the body (sleeve) of another being, without resleeving. It can be tiring and disorienting for the average human consciousness to make such drastic changes in short periods of time, but Takeshi has trained to reduce down-time and side-effects from casting.
+ Edgerunner — Reality is much more dangerous than fiction, but in a world built on immersive technology, trapping the human consciousness in virtual environments can be fatal. Takeshi has extensive training to mentally endure torture, repeated abuse, and to navigate virtual reality and the Net. And always, above all else, to make it back to the real world.

WHAT IS AN ENVOY?
The Envoys are a collective group of super-soldiers based on an off-earth planet called Harlan’s World. Their cause is simple: freedom and social justice.
They intend to slow and completely eliminate the destruction of humanity. Most notably, they intend to address how new life-prolonging technology— a costly luxury available only to the most wealthy in society— will place a monetary value on human life itself. They believe that all humans should each be given the same length of a lifespan— approximately a hundred years— after which death will be permanent, regardless of changing sleeves or attempting virtual backups of human consciousness. In this way, they believe that by placing limits on how long a human consciousness can live, it will be more fair for all people, rich or poor, to enjoy life to the fullest.
Envoys collectively believe in ideals of pure human freedom, and that government-funded military and police, and an overreach of government itself, is too subject to greed and detrimental power imbalances. They support freedom of thought, life, and equal resources— and they collectively disavow the ultra-rich who hoard wealth, the stratification between poverty and wealth, any form of intolerance.
To fight these injustices, the Envoy group of super-soldiers was created and trained under the tutelage of Quellcrist Falconer, a formidable soldier and hacker of interstellar legend. Together, they trained and ran missions in order to try and make their goals a reality, including: espionage, hacking, corrupting data, and even killing those who stand in their way.
With such grand plans, it should come as no surprise that the United Nation’s military— funded by the wealthy, of course— sought to silence the Envoys. Though the Envoy cause has always been pure, targeting the few wealthy and powerful for the benefit of the many average people in the universe, the UN attempted to rewrite history and smear their reputation, labeling them a violent, “rebel terrorist” organization. They UN waged a brutal war in an attempt to destroy all Envoys and their uprising that threatened social norms.
Because of this war, in present times, only one single Envoy has managed to survive… and his name is Takeshi Kovacs.
SLEEVES
In a society where human consciousness is contained in an implantable stack (a vertebral disc-like device that sits at the base of the brain and encodes one’s mind), you can change bodies as effortlessly as you change clothes. Takeshi is not usually keen on changing between sleeves (bodies) as much as the average person might. But it is out of the sheer will to live, out of the necessity to survive during his many years as a fugitive and mercenary, that Takeshi had no choice but to inhabit many different sleeves…
